Project Description
Technologists, Inc. designed and constructed approximately 31km of a 10m wide road (with 150mm asphalt pavement surface) capable of supporting a minimum 12,000 kg vehicle per single axle.
When Ti began work in winter of 2007, special care was taken in mixing and applying the many different layers of the road surface. Ti continuously tested material for the right consistency. The resulting proprietary asphalt formula was a lot thicker than the existing Soviet road built 34 years previously.
The Kabul to Bagram Road is one of Afghanistan’s major roads in Afghanistan and has great importance for its people. The route between the cities of Kabul and Bagram is more than just a vital trade route between the nation’s capital and the largest Coalition base in Afghanistan.
Since roads create employment opportunities for local workers, and finished roads form vital community links, Ti solicited community input at monthly community meetings about the road project. “You get a lot of satisfaction out of what’s being done, and there’s a great sense of pride and accomplishment from the Afghans who are working very hard to rebuild their nation,” said, Patricia Cason, USACE-AED Construction Representative.
